Conceptual Musical Design
Concept Statement: The costume design concept takes inspiration from old soundstage technicolor musicals, and creates the highly curated “perfect” world of Wonka’s factory. Taking inspiration from the decades making up the “golden age of Hollywood” (1927-1969), each character wears silhouettes and styles from specific moments within this time period to represent their specific personalities and situations. Coming from the idea that this is a spectacle retelling by Wonka, each character has their own unique color scheme and style to coincide with their ultimate failure within Wonka’s test. The overall color palette is a mix of jewel tones and muted neutrals to represent the contrast between Wonka’s world and Charlie’s. Every look has some sort of shine or sparkle to give that showy, ethereal look
